I am very excited to announce the arrival of our new Pastor of Worship and Music, Dr. Luke Lusted, and his wife Jennifer. Married just last month in their home state of Louisiana, Luke will fill the role of choir director, but will also fulfill many other duties here at Camelback. Following the move of our Interim Choir Director, Mary Ann Roberson, to Kansas City this summer, God once again demonstrates that His timing is perfect.
We began talking to Luke at the end of 2014 about this position, and in every communication with him we were impressed with his intense focus on the Lord. Luke seeks to minister richly in music and worship, pointing people to Christ as his ministry goal.
Luke comes to us with extraordinary education and experience. For his doctoral research at The University of Arizona, he examined the ways in which the composer J.S. Bach demonstrated the agony of Christ’s crucifixion through music, in particular in the B Minor Mass. Luke has directed many choirs, composed a great deal of music, and has an impressive career as a singer, singing with some of the nation’s finest choirs. The most remarkable thing about Luke, however, is his pastor’s heart, and his sincere desire to serve in ministry.
Luke is very excited about beginning his ministry here at Camelback, and both he and Jennifer look forward to raising their family in a church focused on Christ. Along with leading the Sanctuary Choir, Luke will be responsible for Sunday morning worship. In addition to working with Pastor Tim and the choir, I know that Luke is particularly excited about ministering alongside Julianne and the Praise Team during the 9:00 am service as well.
We are thrilled to have Luke on board and are looking forward to seeing our worship and music ministries reach an even higher level in praise of the Lord.
Dr. Guy Whatley is excited to be working closely with Luke. With Luke in position as our Pastor of Worship and Music, Guy will now be able to focus more fully on the organ and other keyboard playing, and further nurture instrumental music and musicians at Camelback. In addition to the role of organist, Guy will oversee our concert series, working to connect the community with Camelback through the arts and music. He will also be working closely with Leonard Valencia to expand the Camelback School for the Arts and create new community outreach and evangelism opportunities through music.
We praise God for orchestrating these changes that will allow us to be more effective at building up the body at Camelback and seeking out the lost.
In His service,
