We have a huge blessing in front of us. Beginning next week our new pastor Julian Gibb will preach a four part sermon series on the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5 – 7).
Not only is this the greatest sermon ever delivered, by none other than Jesus himself, but Pastor Julian is amply qualified, with God’s help, to open up its treasures. Julian possesses a unique ability to see deeply into the heart of God in the Bible and to communicate powerfully, thoughtfully, and relevantly. Together with his wife Duffy, who has already been a tremendous encouragement to the church family through her ministry of a Christ-centered approach to the arts, Julian brings a unique package of love and giftedness to CBC. I’m so grateful he is part of the pastoral team.
Please introduce yourself to Julian and Duffy when you see them. They know we are a loving church family, eager to extend Christ’s love to all people. By the way, Duffy is expecting their second child in July, the very month Julian is preaching to us – a dramatic month for both of them!
Lesli and I will be going to Solana Beach to recharge our batteries. We are eager to take walks on the beach, ride some waves, read God’s word, pray, and try to catch up on postponed projects. Our son Matt joins us for the July 4th holiday. The fireworks above the race track in Del Mar, which I watched from the sand every year as a child, are pretty special.
An interesting family note: Jon arrived this morning (Wednesday) in London where he will write over the next two months his masters thesis on Samuel Johnson for King’s College London, and Matt also arrived this morning in London, on a three day consulting assignment for Accenture. So the two men will link up in the Old World for weekend touring in Salisbury and the Cotswolds. The world has become small! And that only assists the spread of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
At CBC, we are a family on a mission for the glory of God. May God continue to use us locally and globally to lead people to the Savior!
