Let’s Make Music!

Posted September 25, 2014

Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God. Colossians 3:16

This text from Colossians guides and informs our music ministry at Camelback Bible Church. Our ministry is founded in the Word of God. We sing and study his Word. Singing our hymns, praise songs, and anthems with biblical words, allows us to praise, thank, and pray to God. We also admonish and encourage one another. Music is a powerful vehicle to speak to God, with God, about God, and to hear from God. Our music ministry enriches our spiritual life within our church, and reaches out to evangelize to our local community.

We are also a music ministry made up entirely of dedicated volunteers, from all walks of life, and from all age groups. Being part of the music ministry is one of the most wonderful ways to enrich and deepen your spiritual life, to belong to a small group within the church, and to serve the body at Camelback and the wider community. As we move into a new season, I would like to invite you to prayerfully consider serving in our music ministry.

There are many places where you can serve. Our adult Sanctuary Choir is very welcoming, and many of our members had never sung in a choir before, until they took the plunge and tried it out. We rehearse on Wednesday evenings, and sing most Sundays. Our primary responsibility is to lead and enrich worship on Sunday mornings, but we also present concerts and look for opportunities to minister elsewhere.

Some members are professional musicians, others had never played an instrument or read music before they started playing bells.

Children serve in the music ministry at Camelback through our various children’s choirs and bell ensembles. These groups meet weekly on Sunday afternoons and regularly lead in our worship services. We also have an annual children’s music ministry trip and various fundraisers. We would love for your family to experience the richness of being part of a program like this.

We currently offer classes in piano, guitar, painting, dance, voice, and violin, in addition to summer camps. We would love for you to let your neighbors and friends know about this excellent opportunity for their kids.

If you already play a musical instrument or sing I would love to hear from you. If you want to play an instrument or learn to sing I would also love to hear from you! We would love to help you find a role where you can serve in the music ministry at Camelback.

In Christ,

Guy Whatley
