Vacation Bible Camp – what a great week!
I’m still singing the Agency D3 song in my sleep, but it was all worth it! Rachael White, Gina Collins, and I were exceptionally blessed this year with a strong and eager team of 90 volunteers and the sweetest 230 kids we could’ve ever prayed for during our Vacation Bible Camp week. With a secret agent theme, children discovered who Jesus is, decided if they believed in Him, and lastly learned how to defend their faith in Him by telling others about this good news. The theme verse was 1 Peter 3:15 which says, “Always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you to give an account for the hope that is in you.”
We had an opportunity to teach the kids about missions and giving by partnering with Doug Landro to raise money to purchase chairs for a Ministry Center being built in Ukraine. We were able to raise over $450, which enabled us to purchase 13 chairs for the center. It was so much fun to hear how excited children were to give, even of their own money!
Being on the Director side of Vacation Bible Camp was a powerful experience for me personally. One thing that caught me off guard was the unity this sort of event brings to the church. I prayed for the Lord to provide volunteers, for the week of VBC to run smoothly, and for kids to receive Christ, and He was faithful to do them all. But He is so much more than we ever ask, isn’t He? He was so good to bring many members of our church body closer together and even formed new relationships as we encouraged one another in the same goal: glorifying the Lord by sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ with a bunch of kids!
As emails and phone calls are still coming in with stories of their children applying what they learned throughout the week, I continue to be amazed at how gracious God was to the three of us as directing VBC was a first for us all. This article would be lacking if I didn’t mention all the work Pastor Ron Elwardt invested in us so that we were able to pull it off! Thank you all again for your prayers and for the countless hours so many of you put in to give these kids a great experience in Christ!
